The 2030 Challenge asks the global architecture and building community to lower fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the built environment by adopting specific performance targets. Targets are updated periodically in pursuit of the ultimate goal: a 100% reduction of fossil fuels for all new buildings and major renovations by the year 2030. As of January 1, 2015, the performance target for new buildings, developments and major renovations has increased from 60% below the regional average to 70% below the regional average.
